I. Objectives

+To introduce Ss the overall topic of the unit: Being part of Asean
+To provide them with vocabulary related to ASEAN- its aims, member states and activities.
+To help them review gerunds and state verbs in continuous forms.
- Skills: Integrated skills
- Attitude:
- To encourage Ss to take part in some competitions to improve their knowledge in these areas.
2. Orientation towards students’ competency development
- To help Ss know more about ASEAN, ASEAN Para Games, ASEAN Charter, external interference
- To Help Ss use the language learnt to speak in their daily lives.
II. Preparation of teacher and students

about ASEAN
-T shows Ss some pictures (handout 1) and
asks Ss to answer the questions
1. What does it symbolize? / (what is this
symbol?)
2. What does “ASEAN” stand for?
3. How many members are there in ASEAN?
-T elicits answers from students, encourages
them if they know some more about ASEAN.
Then T adds some more information about
ASEAN, for example: Viet Nam became a
member of ASEAN in 1995.
